Ep 79: Fabulous Fabi Preslar and Her “F” Words of Business

On today’s episode I talk with Fabi Preslar about the ups and downs of owning a business. I wanted to have Fabi on the show because she’s written a fabulous new book all about “F Words” and also because I feel a kinship with her as a business owner who’s not afraid to admit that some days owning a business is really, really tough. I feel that this is a dialogue that we all need to be having more often. The more we normalize and de-stigmatize failure, the more we free ourselves to take risks and to build something fabulous for ourselves, our families and our employees.

My guest is Fabi Preslar, owner and president of SPARK Publications, a 20 year creative firm specializing in the design custom magazines and catalogs, and independently published books for national client. Fabi was recently named Marketer of the Year by the Business Marketing Association of the Carolinas, 2018 Family Owned Business of the Year by the Charlotte Business Journal, and named 2017 Women Business Owner of the Year by NAWBO Charlotte. She serves as a mentor and advisor with the Women’s Inter-Cultural Exchange and also mentors several women small business owners. Her new book Fabulous F-Words of Business Ownership shares her strong entrepreneurial passion as well as her journey through fear, failure, faith and a variety of other F-words along the way to building a successful business.

In this episode Fabi Shares:

  • Stories and insights from her new book, “Fabulous F Words of Business Ownership,” as well as some of her own favorite “F” words.
  • The highs and lows of running a business – and how, if you’re an entrepreneur, you’re definitely going to experience both of these states of being.
  • The idea that sometimes reoccurring themes around issues like money can be passed down from generation to generation. What do you do if your own family has a long history of financial failures? How do you break this cycle – if that is even possible?
