EP 55: Small Business Warrior: Linda Rawson

Entrepreneur Linda Rawson is a pioneer in helping other women entrepreneurs break into STEM fields. Hear the inspiring story about how Linda has been able to build her own successful business from the most unlikely of circumstances.

Linda Rawson, CEO, and Founder of DynaGrace Enterprises started her company initially called Sensory Technology Consultants, in 2006.  Linda is a technology entrepreneur and executive focused on providing innovative information technology, system integration, cybersecurity and writing services to government and commercial clients.  Her background as a software engineer, combined with her corporate executive experience, merges the technical with the business world.

Linda was born in a small farming community in Utah.  She was raised by her mother, who was a single mom raising five children. Her mother never went to college and did not have any dreams of owning her own business; she did her best to provide while remaining within the expected role of a woman.

Of her family, she is the only one to dream of owning her own business and the only one to have pursued higher education.  She broke away from the family mold and became a success in the business world. She has exceeded expectations and never let various challenges and obstacles associated with being a woman impede upon her path to success.

Her entrepreneur story starts in 2005 at Hill AFB, UT.  She was writing database software for the 84th Radar Evaluation Squadron (RADES).  She got hired as an Oracle DBA but was also a talented.Net programmer, so a few information systems became born or enhanced during her time there.  She loves writing software and data has always been her thing.  She describes being perfectly happy as a cube rat.

During this time, she went through a divorce.  While her personal life was in strife, she had to turn her life around and take care of three teenage kids, so that their life was somewhat normal.  She poured herself into work and managed to run the kids around to all their activities.

As a single mom, she had to consider her family first.  Her words at this time, “I have skills, what would be the worst thing that would happen? My kids might have to sleep on somebody’s couch for a month or two.  It doesn’t hurt children to experience hard times.”  Her kids never slept on somebody’s couch, and she has managed to give them a great lifestyle.

Linda speaks occasionally to groups of business owners on making the climb from Country Girl to CEO.  She had every chance to fail in life but somehow had the drive and motivation to become a CEO.  Recently, Linda went through the Goldman Sach’s 10,000 small businesses training and intends to utilize this training to expand and grow her company further.

Today DGE is a multimillion dollar business, and is thriving and growing. Linda chooses to share her knowledge and experience with other entrepreneurs.

Although very passionate about what she does, she is often accused being a workaholic.  She finds balance in her life by being very close to her family and spends time with them as much as possible. She also finds pleasure in life by traveling and participating in outdoor activities like golf, hiking, and snowshoeing.  She loves meteorology and is an amateur photographer at times with her companion Scott.

Her latest innovation is a compact, portable weather station called the WeatherEgg™.  She educates children about weather through her coloring book and is developing animated humanoid characters called the “WeatherEgg Kids” to enhance the education of weather with children.
