Choose Your Focus

My cousin posted this story on social media and gave me permission to share it here because I loved it so much. He tells about a conversation he had with his 3-year-old daughter, who is as wise as she is cute.  He wrote:

I was driving my daughter to school the other day, and while looking at a very heavy, gray sky I muttered something to the effect of, “It’s an ugly day today.” The following conversation ensued:

Evi: What did you say Daddy?
Me. I said that the sky looks ugly today.
Evi: No it doesn’t. It looks pretty.
Me: What makes you say that? What colors do you see?
Evi: I see blue.
Me: You don’t see gray?
Evi: No. Just blue. It’s pretty.

I starred at the sky a bit more intently and could pick out some light blue hues within the gray wall before me.
Kids. They get it.

You choose your focus. There is always beauty, but sometimes you just have to look for it.
